Imagine you have been tasked with an immense responsibility. In order to fulfill this responsibility, you are given 33.5 years. How would you react to this?
There have been a number of times in my life when I've wondered how and why the Lord was so patient and "restful" during his human Ministry. Comparing how I react under a time crunch to what we see of the Lord in the Gospels was revealing. His Life is a remarkable pattern, and his living was so intentional. I enjoy thinking about what message the Lord has in every aspect of his living.
When I am in a time crunch, I am typically the worst version of myself (which is just being myself, and not letting Christ live through me). I fin myself even wondering why The Lord chose me to be his. There are so many people with more means, more ability, and more capacity than I do. Surely, Lord Jesus could have accomplished more through another. Then, I was reminded of the story of the woman at the well In John 4. After re-reading the account, I was again constrained with Love from and for the Lord.
There are several accounts in the gospel of the Lord caring for a single individual, seemingly at the cost of convenience, comfort, or cultural norms. In John 4, Christ takes the direct route from Judea to Galilee, through Samaria - A land and people that the Jews did not mix with culturally. This was not the contemporary route for Jews of the time, as there was a more common route that did not pass through Samaria. The Lord took the uncommon, and seemingly uncertain route, in order to relate himself to just one woman. This woman then tells the city to "Come, see a man who told me all that I have done. Is this not the Christ?"
The Lord took the time to show Himself to this sinning woman, despite still having so much to do. We do not have as much to do. We need to take the time to care, and see those around us as He sees them.
Praise Christ! May we take our Lord's Pattern in our living! He will give us Lord, give us a vision to see as You see!
